The Villa

Villa Aurora is situated between the Dutch hospital and the lighthouse in Galle Fort, Sri Lanka, adjacent to the local swimming beach.  The lounge and the dining area on the ground floor offer guests the opportunity to relax and dine in comfort. The master bedroom faces east for spectacular sunrises and a shady view of the ramparts. One can sit in the cool sea breeze on its balcony (along the entire front of the house) to enjoy the view toward the lighthouse and life outside. Two smaller double rooms make the house an ideal spot for families. All bedrooms have air conditioning, an en-suite shower room and WiFi internet.

In 2022 a set of solar panels was installed together with a battery pack to both reduce the villa’s environmental footprint and provide a reliable power supply.

All facilities Galle Fort has to offer are within easy walking distance: cafés, restaurants, shops… The Dutch Hospital with its collection of bars and eating places is just one block away. A walk all round the Fort is recommended. Paved paths along the ramparts, away from the traffic, allow you to enjoy views of the ocean on one side and the historic Fort on the other. The inhabitants form a coalescence of religions and cultures: here you walk past the Bhuddist temple, there is the 18th-century Dutch Reformed Church, near the villa you hear the call to prayer from the Mosque. The various communities live peacefully together and their friendliness and hospitality to foreigners are evident.

There are a few museums within the Fort; the Maritime Museum housed in the large warehouse of the Dutch East India Company showcases the historical links of Galle with the world at large.
